Thanks peeps.

Have decided to give them a choice.  So have ordered an 8 ltr green bottom drinker with adjustable legs (might hang this up to steady it - I'll see how they go), plus am on the lookout for a half height bucket or similar trug.

Though I have noticed, as it's rained heavily here today, just as you all say, they are drinking from the puddles. Tut.

Hanging up gravity wateres doesn't really work. Apart from being heavy, they need to be kept level, or the water would all tip out. Every time one drinks, it would tip it up, resulting in a swamp below it, and possible lots of wet birds having a shower.  (remember that muddy swampy areas grow bacteria, so waterer is best moved around, You can buy special water steps, but I found they horrid to clean. I just move the water a bit every time I refill it.
