Wow - you are all so fantastic, encouraging and helpful.  Not one negative.  So if I start with three.... I can see that I shall have to be disciplined with myself not to end up with many more!
Brilliant.
I can't wait now.  Well I have to.  Have decided to have our holiday first.  Want to get used to them before I leave them to someone else's care.
And do most of you name them?

Yes most definitely as they all have their own individual personalities. Mine are Poppy, Hetty, Grace and Daisy.  We have had our 4 just 4 weeks bought at POL. Three are now laying and as well as the lovely eggs they are just so much fun...... Go for it I am sure you won't regret it :D

hehe we all say that we will never name them but we do, all of the ones i have at the house are named and you always find yourself chatting to them as if they understand every word, even when they first come out of the shell

Talking of which, my latest are hatching AS WE SPEAK!  3 gold silkies and 2 black, and 1 clb so far.  I dont think I'll ever tire of watching them hatch, at least I hope I won't..or then it'll time to pack up! :D

Gold silkie, the first hatched, appears a bit " in charge" already, now officially called called Gwen. (wishful thinking..I call them all girls from hatch to oh ear..Crow)

The only advice I can give (from experience) is if you are a keen veg grower keep them away from the veg patch! It seems that there is nothing tastier than home grown young fresh veg for chooks as well as us.
Other than that......go for it.................I still laugh like a drain when I walk outside and see 10 birds doing that head bobbing full pelt runing towards me looking for grub.
a mum is for life..not just for cleaning! ;@)

Having named my first chooks, 2 after my garndmothers, I now call all my chooks Dave. It doesn't work though as they are all different and you may get attached to Dave who is very friendly, be constantly annoyed at Dave who is naughty, frustrated with Dave who is timid no matter how much you try with her, irritated with Dave who always wants more food or something different to what is on offer.

However, I love all my Dave's!! :)
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!
