Sue33, I'll speak up for Diatom  . I sprinkle it in the bedding and along their perch and haven't had trouble with red mite (touch wood!) and I've had the girls a year in October. It is a devil to sprinkle on them though  Maybe newly hatched lice will have to make contact with the powder before they die or something.

You can get Diatom in a 'puff' bottle, though think it problably works out dearer that way.  It looks the easiest way to use it though, specially for getting it into crevices and cracks. 
Haven't tried it yet, but hoping that when the bottle is empty, I'll be able to get the top off and fill it up from a larger tub.
From what I've read its like microscopic broken glass, and it cuts through their protective 'shells', and they deydrate and die.  GOOD!
Can be used against any sort of insect infestation, even in the house, eg kitchen cupboards.  Though perhpas don't try that at home, I could be confusing it with something entirely different, like Ajax.......

Thats ok, i carnt remember the ladies name who was telling us about the spray on here, im sure she said there was no egg withdrawal, maybe she will log on soon. nickyx
