This year I had:

Charlotte - good crops but got waterlogged by flash-flooding so lost a few
Kestrel - poor crop, which the slugs loved
Red Rooster (given to try) - so far poor and the slugs love these ones too
King Edward - as dependable as ever with good crop and pest resistance

At least they have all done the job of breaking up the ground, I won;t plant so many next year

International kidney - dug early so didn't go smushy on boiling - but obviously smaller sized;
red duke of york, lots of them, good size but quite a lot of scab
Wilja - good crop
Arran pilots Ok - but TBH couldn't tell 'em apart from international kidney which weren't kidney shaped at all

Still waiting for Sarpo Mira as long as poss as I'd like nice big un's (potatoes that is  )

You need to get them up by September (potatoes that is ) ....so I read somewhere or other.  ;)

The only reason to dig spuds up really is to stop them being decimated by pests & frosts. Just think how many survive the winter and emerge next year when you miss digging them up!

I'm having all my Sarpo's up soon as the foliage is yellowing and they won't grow any more, but still got the rest of the Picasso to do.

First Earlies were Rocket - 1st year I have trid them.  Very Starchy - good for sloppy mash but no good for roasts, chips or salads.
Main Crop - Home Guard - Good for roasting, saute, chips or salad & general purpose; good crop per root - recommended.

Pentland Javelin........Good crop, lovely boiled.
Anya.......Let them grow to largish size. Decent crop and taste.
Charlotte.....Lovely but small. Grew in tubs.
Hunter......Good size. Got them for free so that improved the taste!
Desiree......Good crop.Impressed with the taste. Suspect to potato scab.

In total I harvested 170 lb. for a total cost of £9.00  LOVELY!!!

First Early.
Maris Bard: Excellent  flavour. Nice size,
                3x12' rows x 9 spuds (27) = 3kg cost £2.99.
                Yield:    46lb perfect / 9lb slug/other damage...
                Total:    55lb = 0.06p per lb.

2nd Early.
Int Kidney: Great, they never fail me. Some variation in size but does not detract from their great flavour, keeping well in hessian sacks.
                3x12' rows x 10 spuds (30) = 2kg cost £2.00.
                Yield:      56.5lb perfect / 3.5lb slug/other damage...
                Total:      60lb = 0.04p per lb.

K Edwards:  Had to lift at 17 weeks, hit by blight, cut off haulms and left for 10 days.
                5x12' rows x 9 spuds per row (45) = 4kg cost £4.05p.
                Yield:   113lb 14oz perfect / 14lb slug/other damage...
                Total:  137lb 14oz = 0.03p per lb.

In tubs at home.

Int Kidney.........1tub x 3 spuds,  1 tub x 4 spuds (7) cost 35p.
                 Yield:   9lb perfect = 0.03p per lb.

TOTAL YIELD:  261lb.14oz. Works out at 4p per lb.

Me thinks me is happy at that price.

That'll keep you in mash, chips, roasts and the rest through the the Spring and beyond.

How do you store yours, Vron?

Charlotte ... tubs with compost and manure mix - very tasty, medium yield
Plot, clay soil, very poor yield, taste not so good.

International Kidney ... tubs with compost and manure mix - poor yield, poor taste
Plot, clay soil, medium yield medium taste.

For next year, will stick with Charlotte, and experiment with others.  Am quite taken with growing in containers too!

This was our first year on the allotment so we are still learning. However, we took some advice from some of the other guys on our allotment site and had some really excellent results growing potatoes.

First earlies - Lady Christl - Excellent crop of good sized tasty potatoes, no disease or slug damage. We will definitely grow these again next year.

Main Crop - Sarpo Mira - Huge crop of very large potatoes. No slug damage but some a bit scabby.
