I've moved on from parsnips.

Now about these "Wanganui Giant" carrots from down under that I'm growing.....
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

They're not ready yet, but I accidentally pulled one up a couple of weeks ago.

It did the three of us.

I'm sure you forgot to mention the leftovers for the next day's lunch, DD  ;)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

im SO pleased someone asked this question as i was also getting worried about the size of mine (parsnips...that is )...i used richies paper pot method and mine are so high, they are competing with the sweetcorn!!  however, i had a little peek around the root level and can see good sized tops to the parsnips, so fingers crossed, i will possibly be joining the competition later in the year. :)

That "small woman" is my daughter - here's the full picture - she would be the first to admit that she's not small.

Vital statistics, (of the parsnip), - 16" long, (left some in the ground), 17" circumference, 4 lb 5 oz weight.

only joking DD!

I may well be entering a Smallest Parsnip entry...only 6 have survived and they're no taller than 30cm...so expecting tiny roots :(

Can't imagine what it was like to dig that up DD.  Were you expecting it or did it come as a massive shock?  I get excited when I dig up a carrot (haven't grown parsnips yet) and there is some orange there!

Wouldn't say it was a massive shock as I was getting some good size parsnips.

It must be the ground, they do well every year and I do nothing special.

A 4lb 5oz single parsnip!? Crrrazy! lol  That's just showing off, that is.  I would never do that...much!! :D ::)

How was the texture and flavour? Do you think it suffers any when vegetables grow to gargantuan proportions?  (Although I'm now hoping I can find out for myself this year! :D) or was it still delish?
