strawberry bed

Any reason why I shouldn't start a strawberry bed now?  Might be able to pick up some cheap plants and thought it would be good for them to be established prior to fruiting next year.

I thought I read somewhere that late summer is an excellent time to establish a strawberry bed as it gives them plenty of time to grow a good root system before next years growing season.  Might be wrong ???  I'm waiting for my peas finish, then they are out and some strawberries are in.

It's when they naturally reproduce, i'm awash with them, need another bed i think.

Feed them with maunre tea, they go mental.

What is manure tea?
I've set up a comfrey liquid producer on the side of my shed basically a bit of drainpipe and a bottle secured on the bottom. Put in the comfrey leaves to rot and collect liquid at the bottom. Haven't got any yet but only a matter of time.

Manure tea is manure soaked in liquid - dilute the resulting liquid to the colour of weak-ish tea, a bit like you've described with comfrey  :)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

What's the right time of year (if any) to move strawbeery plants?

I bought a couple of plants about three years ago and put them in opposing corners of an 18" sqaure container, with chives in the opposite corners and a few nasturtiums in the middle.

I get a small amount of strawbs each year - usually no more than about 15 fruits per plant (although they are absolutely delicious) and I've started wondering what the best course of action to try and increase the yield or give the plants a bit of a 'lift' - re-planting them, taking cuttings etc.

Any advice on techniques and timings would be greatly appreciated.
Veg? That's chips, innit?
