I cannot think of any 'conventional' fruit tree that has red leaves.  My  guess is that this is an ornamental prunus which has decided to set fruit this year.  I doubt they are harmful, but they may not be very nice.

If possible I suggest you take a sample to one of the RHS garden advice desks for identification.

Cheers,

Gillie

Have you had a close look at these fruits ?
Could they be nuts ?

I can only think of copper beech that has red leaves that resemble hornbeam.

I think its prunus pissardii. We have one, and regularly get a heavy crop of small red plums. If you wait till theyre really ripe, then they are great cooked.
