Hi there everyone, does anyone have a picture of a jerusulem artichoke when it first breaks earth, as Ive never grown them before and not sure if what is appearing is the artichoke, I know it's a daft question, but I don't want to hoe it to death, which I have a habit of doing, getting carried away with the weeding, you know how it is!!

Any way can anyone help, if it is the artichoke, it is not what I expected, I was thinking serrated like globe artichokes!!!

Yep!

Now another question - any idea how long they take to start showing? I've planted some this year but no sign as yet,

I seem to think it is mid/late May before they usually show.   Might be earlier this year due to warm weather.

Mine have taken about five weeks to show, so hopefully you'll have something showing anytime now.

I popped mine in when I'd finished harvesting in mid Feb - we had a little thread about them then:

http://www.chat.allotment-garden.org/viewtopic.php?t=2520&highlight=jerusalem

I planted six, and marked where each was - ten shoots have just come up at random points around the patch, so they've obviously got a mind of their own!

Mine are all up.  About 10cm high and several leaves each.  :)
Sally (N.Ireland) Organic as far as I know!

Plant plenty.  Celebrate success.  (Let selective memory deal with the rest.)

I'm hoping the welcome rain over the last couple of days will bring them up.  I'll have a good look tomorrow.
