My two girls are still not laying, they are about 25 weeks (marans) is this normal,  what is the latest you could expect them to lay in terms of age.  nickyx

I know purebreeds lay later than hybrids but i have a hybrid who didnt start laying till she was 40 wks! but that is rare, maybe they werent as old as the breeder said they were? or it should be any time now! just watch for red combs and squatting!

nicky has their combs changed colour yet ie got a deeper red? My cuckoo maran was about that age when she started to lay, so yours should be soon
Staffies are softer than you think.

one of the girls comb is very red, but the other is paler in comparison.    They definatley arnt squatting when i go out to them, which i read on here is a sign, is that true.  nickyx

my cuckoo never did squat until this last week (and she's the first of mine that went broody!!) but the red comb is the better indicator. In fact of my 8 older hens only 4 do squat for me. Sounds like at least one will be laying very soon - get your egg cup, spoon and soldiers at the ready - plus your camera of course  :D

fat Lois is a free loader, she never layed any eggs for the egg farmer and as far as i know she's never layed any for me :D she was over weight when i got her 14 months ago and she's still over weight now, she's always first in the cue for treats as she hangs around the porch all day, can't get out of the house without tripping over her. ::)
