hi my question is...is Scats chick crumb safe for ducklings..does it  contain Anti coccidiostat harmful to ducklings

I think scats does  contain an anti coccidostat I dont think it is organic. Might be worth giving them a call though or have a look at their website

Hi Foxy, you know I value your opinion and extensive knowledge in all things poultry! I spoke to a Specially qualified person ie. someone who can prescribe medication for poultry and she said that any feed containing anti coccidostat would need a prescription. There seems to be a lot of confusion about this, I was in a right state when feeding the rescue ducklings over Easter. It seems to be nearly impossible to find out! Help please for when we have more ducklings, Nic.

Most feed bought from anywhere for chicks contains anti coccidostat (chick crumbs and rearers) unless it is organic ie a & p organic or farmgate organic, so don't know where your specialist got their information from sorry  .

Whereabouts are you Mrs T?  Monday I was talking to BOCM Pauls, the mills we get our feed from about unmedicated chick crumb.  They now do 7.5kgs bags of unmedicated crumb and rearer and the charge to us is £4.60, don't know if that's the retail price, but they are advertising that if you buy 4 bags at the same time, you get it delivered free.

Allen and Page organic chick crumb is also unmedicated as are all waterfowl chick crumbs.

I usually rear chickens, but recently had 2 call ducklings, I fed them the same as my chicks on marriages chick crumbs which is medicated, they have had no problem and are doing really well, why is medicated chick crumbs no good for ducks?

dodson and horrell chick crumb and grower pellets are un medicated! but if you want to know if a feed is medicated just look for ACS on the packaging which means it is!

Best advice is to not feed product containing ACS to ducks or geese. You don't need a prescription from a vet or SQP but your name and address should be recorded by the supplier.

All Allen & Page products (smallholder range and organic) are free from ACS as are Dodson & Horrell Countryside. However if in doubt check the label as there will be lots of information on there regarding withdrawal times etc.

I feed my ducklings Scats chick crumbs and it is certainly unmedicated, it clearly states it on the paper label and I asked in the shop when I got and went back to check as I was unsure

Thank you all very much for the help...I sent hubby to get organic chick crumb and he came back with pellets which i ground up...but now i see Scats is OK   good job....never send hubby for anything...comes back with the wrong thing ...thanks all xx  just need a companion now for orphaned duckling!!!
