Hi, Would just like to say hellooooo - Myself and husband (and the kids!) have started our Grow-Our-Own fruit and veg plot in the garden. Last year we started off with a couple of strawberry plants and some radishes...had a few carrots but the slugs ate those. Didn't really do well at all with anything else. Well, this year we have strawberries (millions of them), spring onions, snack peas, rhubarb, tomatoes (3 varieties), onions (giant), 2 apple trees, 1 pear tree, beetroot, courgettes, cucumbers, a gooseberry tree (which was riddled with caterpillars), peppers, chillies....oh, and pumpkins!
Have read some of the posts on various problems that some of you have, and to be honest, we are a little confused......
Onions - Ours laid over a few weeks ago, and look bulbous (just popping out of the soil) but some say to lift them, some say to leave them.... what do we do??
Pear tree - absolutely nothing on there but lots of new leaves (there are a couple of white cotton-wool type patches over a couple of the old stems) Any ideas?
Tomatoes - Millions of them (moneymakers, gardeners delight and marmade), but none turning red - when do we expect them to turn? We (well, he) thins them out, feeds once a week and trims off leaves regularly...
All trial and error this year ready for the 'big move' with a couple of acres of land to be completely self-sufficient....
Advice or tips will be much appreciated!
