Hello fellow growers I am new to this as you will soon learn and my question is.
my cauliflowers and cabbages won't grow tight they open up like a flower.  any suggestions please?????

All brassicas need to be planted very firmly - you should be able to tug a leaf after planting & it will tear rather than the whole plant be pulled up.

I bury young brassicas up to there necks (at the first leaf joint) and use my fist to push hard around the base of the plants, creating a kind of hollow (If you know what I mean) Then puddle them in. Werks for me!

Ooh. Thanks for that tip, I am going to plant my calabrese tomorrow and couldn't remember if the ground needed to be firm.Thanks again.

I run a heavy lawn roller over my ground before planting. (Not if it's soaking wet though).

Once the plant's in the hole it gets firmed in by treading all around it.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
