cleaning after dodgy toms
« on: July 13, 2009, 19:45 »
As i've had the tomato probs this year, just in case it's virus and not bad compost as i suspect, how should i clean the greenhouse at the end of the year.
Would changing the border soil be recommended? ( it's 2nd year of use)
I just want to do all i can so that (hopefully) i don't get problems again  :(
I will also get all new seed as some of the viruses can be carried on seed
Anything else i need to know?

You can use Jeyes Fluid to wash and sterilise pots and the greenhouse itself (not the soil).

I would probably recommend changing the soil or you run the risk of pests and diseases overwintering in it - but I'll let someone who's more experienced in greenhouse growing confirm if that's the right approach.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

flood the greenhouse with hosepipe , then 3-4 watering cans of jeyes fluid, as per instructions,

it should be sterile by then ,

october time , buy 2 sulpher candles from gardening supply shop,

january time spay a solution jeyes , covering 100% of the inside of greenhouse , should be great start to next april
