that look's good. we didn't have any on are plot so after 3 attempts with shop bought crowns, all of which did nothing, we bought a well established plant from a garden centre. i have dug the other 3 crowns up and have them in the green house so hopefully next year we will have a rhubarb patch like yours!!

I think I've killed mine!    mind you I didn't know I had any until it popped up right at the corner of the chicken run; not good, it's poisonous to chooks, so I moved it, watered it in well, but there is only this diddy patchy of curled up leaves; will it come back or is it gone for good?

When I got mine as bare root crowns they started developing tiny leaves before I got it planted, its been fine.  I see loads of lottie holders behind the house who have it smothered in manure and it seems to thrive.  Mine is now at about three leaf stage but am told not to pull any this year just to leave it.  I'm dying to taste it though, I love rhubarb!

This is the rhubarb in march this year:

And theis is  today.  The third piece is off picture and not as strong, lots of thin and weedy stalks rather than a few strong looking ones.

Ours are looking pretty inpressive too, rhubarb seems to be one of those things that you dont rally notice them growing until one day you realise that they are a few feet across. We have mulched around our this year with some membrane under the mulch to stop weeds and they seem healthier than they were this time last year when the weeds were sticking their noses in,

Cheers,
Moz

I think I've killed mine!

We've moved ours a couple of times with house moves it always comes back, and the crowns must be at least 40yrs old now and still producing far more than we can use just give it time to settle into its new home.

i made some rhubarb crumble which was nice.  the first harvest!
i also used the leaves to make an infusion to spray on seedlings which allegedly keeps off herbivores.
Time is natures way of stopping everything happening at once

I'm lucky I ...
... inherited quite a big rhubarb patch, which was a bit congested.  I split it up last year and gave a few lumps away and got back a crown of an early one.  But I couldn't bear to throw any away so I now have two rhubarb patches!

At the moment my rhubarb probably isn't as advanced as ruffmeister's but it's looking fab.  I did manage to get my mitts on a very cheap terracotta forcer and have had about four pickings of glorious sweet pink tender stalks.

However production should really kick in May  :D  It's a fabulous reward for next to no effort I feel.
