Hello,
One of my baby lavander araucanas (5/6 weeks old) has suddenly developed quite a red head. It looks sore but when i look closely I can't see anythong actually wrong and he/she is behaving quite normally.
Could it be pigmentation developing? The chicks' mother seems to have stopped defending them so they are getting the odd peck from another chicken, but it's only the one chicken and she's not vicious.
Could it be some sort of mite? All the others are absolutely fine (4 speckled sussex 2 more lav. araucanas), though the sussexs are developing wattles and combs so they have a little bit of pigmentation showing too.

I don't know about araucanas but one of my silkies has developed a very red face over the last week or so, it happened at the same time she went from cheeping to rosey so I put it down to normal development.

Is it a cockerel and that's it's little comb developing?

It's developing pea comb is def. redder but it's whole head seems to be redder. I'm going to master this shrinking of photo's thing and get one on here today.
Otherwise he looks just like the one in your hand!
