I read here a lot more than I post so I thought I'd put up some pics of how things are going, I'm still a relative noob to this grow your own lark. I'm fairly pleased with progress so far :D

For a relative noob thats excellent, I wonder what you can do with plenty of experience!

Well done!

Thanks all, year 1 was admittedly a bit overwhelming and at times slightly depressing. Cleared ground would magically sprout couch grass and nettles overnight. I ended up sheeting over half of the allotment and concentrating on fencing off areas as raised beds then focussing on utterly annihilating those areas.

This year the year 1 half was much more tractable weeds wise. I unsheeted the other half and filled it with spuds and tobacco. Lots of help from my three household gods, Briggs, Stratton and mantis.

There are people on our site who have been working plots there for 30+ years and a more helpful and accomodating bunch of people I have never met.

Is that tobacco for smoking?  Be nice to have a go...

Pint of homebrew with a home grown fag...heaven.

Yes it is "smoking" variety. Virginia and maryland are the types. Friend of mine from the states has been coaching me in the growing and drying/curing process. It does not look too difficult just takes some time.

From what I gather the legal side is very similar to our home brew laws, as long as you do it for yourself and not try to sell then there is no process in place for tax. Try selling it and deep doo doo will be the result.

I bought the seeds from a uk company called plantation house. You can only try. I'll keep you updated with progress on how things go.

Tobbaco bed and late spuds bordered by tobacco. in the second to last shot of the first set of photos are some tobacco plants just producing their first flowers.

Yes I am a noob, up to spring last year my limit was container tomatoes and a few runner beans up the side of the garage.
