Dark grey blotches on tomato stems
« on: July 12, 2009, 10:25 »
I have three gardeners delight plants tied together in a row outside. One of them is showing signs of grey patches on the stem and leaf. The leaves are also wilting. I have cout off all the leaves that are effected and some of the stem has been chopped down making the plant quite short but with some fruiting flowers.

Is this blight ?

is it dark grey or light grey?  If it's light grey and powdery looking then it could be the cunningly named powdery mildew which isn't as much of a problem as blight.

(touchwood...) I have never seen / experienced blight so can't advise specifically on that but from what you have said it could well be.   :(  if so you'd need to pull up the plants and burn them and don't touch other plants with the gloves you wore afterwards until they have been washed to prevent the fungal spores from spreading.

Doesn't sound like blight to me.  Are the grey patches furry, like mould?
Cheese makes everything better.
