manure liquid feed
« on: July 08, 2009, 15:25 »
I can't remember where I saw it but I believe Horse manure in a hessian sack left to soak in a water butt makes a good tomato feed?

but...

How long does it need to soak in the water? once its soaked, is it a cupful in the watering can to use as feed?

Also, what other plants can this 'feed' be used for?

Cheers

Mick

They swear by this on our site. I keep getting given bottles of manure water as a treat... I just slop a bit in each watering can and hope for the best. I feed everything with it, especially tomatoes if I've run out of comfrey tea, which is much smellier.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

I use it diluted to water most crops. The favourite on our site is a mixed comfrey/manure liquid feed - comfrey and a shovelful of manure in the same bucket of water - ooh it doesn't half pong but the veggies love it!

Mickwood, the recommended soaking time is about 4 weeks. I never remember to do it in time so I just find some leftover old muck, put a handtrowel's worth into the water can with no rose end, run the hose fast to fill and break it up inside, then water my plants with it. Did it to the strawbs last year after fruiting and this year got a gorgeous bumper crop. Just found a bit more leftover chicken muck and will do it with the other plants as well.
