Urban foxes?
« on: July 08, 2009, 10:33 »
From reading these posts it would appear many people with chooks either have a field or back onto fields, and I can understand the problem with foxes. But I was wondering about the many people like myself who live in an urban enviroment and keep chooks, does anyone have a problem with foxes coming into back gardens after the chickens?

I know that Kate and Her Ducks lost some ducks earlier this year to a fox and she is in an urban setting.

think you might find that there are more urban foxes than ever now so you need to be very very carefull.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Have seen more foxes in urban areas than I have in fields. Probably because they are more cheeky and likely to come into the garden. Need to be just as careful as they are sneaky beggars and just know when you are keeping chooks  >:(

I agree with the others, I think urban foxes are worse and have got more front.  I'm lucky, although I'm rural I also have three dogs and they can smell a fox from miles away!! I have a bigger problem with Roland Rat!!

hi there, i live in the middle of a town, and we have a beautiful huge dog fox that sits on our drive most morning.he never tried ( i think) to get in the back when we had a rabbit.... but chickens are a different story. i for one will be trying to make my pen as fox proof as possible. we are having a skirt of mesh and padlocks on eveything. the house has mesh on the bottom, and under the roof ,bolts and padlocks on the doors the house will be inside a run with a mesh skirt... again with padlocks on ..... :D :D :D :D
if hey get into that, i will send the kids to uni anf give the chickens thier bedrooms :D

I've seen a few foxes 'round here, but only if I wake up early enough.

I never knew we had foxes in the middle of coventry until 4.30 am the day after we got our hens. He/she hasn't got any but was sat there having a REALLY good look. Until I threw things...

There around cause there are so many dustbins and dumped maccy d's (plus other fast food companies) wrappers chucked on the floor. Also people think they are so cute and then if they are like my silly father in law put food out just for them The daft old bat goes out and buys the dog food in a tube stuff and makes dog food sandwiches for them - How annoying is that, takes no notice of me when I try and point out he really shouldn't do that  >:(

I just wondered how good they were at getting into gardens. I have 6ft panel fencing all around and it has to be hole proofed and dig proofed against my jack russell. So..... I figured if my escape artist can't get out, could a fox get in?
