Our neighbour has suggested putting lime on our vegetable patch to keep down weeds, before doing this I would like some advice on the potential problems for crops and also our dogs – we have a 15 year old collie and 3 10 month old pups.

Any help will be much appreciated

Well it will do NOTHING to keep down the weeds but it will help most crops (except potatoes).   Keep it away from any areas freshly manured.

Brassicas are the obvious spot for liming.

Won't harm the dogs at all.

lol!! lime wont help weeds its just a soil conditioner, again keep away from potatoes and give lots to brasicas

If I wanted advice on growing globe artichokes, a Frenchman would be the first person I asked.   But potatoes ........  !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reason is, incidentally, that free lime in the soil causes Lime Scab on potatoes.  Quite a good name for it really.
