Too late for sprouts?
« on: July 04, 2009, 09:57 »
I have just found a pack of seeds for some brussel sprouts, they say to sow in April, is there any point to me doing anything with them now or will I be best to wait until next spring?

Hello you ..welcome to the forum :)
My advice would be to leave them till next year, I think it's too late for them to make enough growth before the winter, sorry :(

Hi there, thanks for the welcome.

What you say backs up what I thought. Just need to make sure I don't forget the seeds next year!!

I picked up mine as small plants and they only went in two weeks ago, the bed wasnt ready until then, they look good, if we only get one sprout we will carve it up between 8 and enjoy the best we can

No-one likes to recommend importing brassica seedlings in case you import clubroot with them.
However if they came from the garden centre they should have been started off in fresh potting compost/peat, if they are in the farmers market in clumps i would have a good look at the soil attached to the roots before buying..if it is soil, rather than compost then beware....your decision

Mum is very right..I would have been wary about planting them until you knew how good they were. Ask DD and many other members about clubfoot..its not pretty at all.

Hopefully you picked them up at a decent ethical place and price (Im not hobby horsing, just trying to save you hassle)

Clubfoot is certainly not pretty.

Neither is club root. :tongue2:
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
