Can you start swede off in plug seed trays and transplant later?

I do ....but you have to transplant them sharpish before they fill up the module with roots.

I started mine in plastic drinks cups... grew to about 6 inches tall, then planted out last week... 40 out of 40, so very happy

I started mine in modules this year, they are coming along a treat  :happy:

Paper pots for me, no root disturbance..and get them in quick sharp, or risk a big checking or loss

Seems you can.... i have some merrily growing leggy in their individual cells! 

Not sure why I bothered as the ones sown on the plot (sown at the same time) are also coming up thick and fast..... very fast.

Did mine in loo rolls that i cut in half are doing really well put them in bout 3 wks ago.Will do the same and more next year or could i still do some now?

Hi All,
  Did mine in paper pots and they were doing fine but now they seem to be under attack from some sort leaf miner as the leaves have large white tracks across them.

grow mine in old plastic take away tubs

fibre pots are good push them on or cover to stop flea beetle they will attack small seedlings if its nice and dry

I spoke too soon when I said I don't know why I bothered growing Swede in cells as the direct sown ones were doing well....

Well, they were... 

Now they've been nibbled near to death.. the tops have provided something with quite a meal. I don't think it's pigeons (for a change as they eat nearly everythig else given the chance) but might it be "flea beetle"? 

If it could be fb - any tips on how to avoid the nibbling? Please
