Mulch: fir tree chippings
« on: April 15, 2007, 21:13 »
Can you use any kind of chippings for mulch? We've just got a shredder and chopped down some small leylandii, and (if I could stand the smell!) wondered if I could spread it over the soil?

Thanks,
Kath

Wouldn't recommend it unless for paths.  Conifers are resinous and contain too many tannins.

Thank you - I knew there'd be a reason why I shouldn't but I couldn't think of a good one!
