Cabbage : Why does nobody understand ?
« on: June 27, 2009, 13:25 »
I like cabbage - I really like cabbage - seems thats a hard thing to understand. Anyway I know there are some on here that can/ will understand.

This is my first Hispi of the year - Oh its so nice, so sweet , so tasty. I've eaten the lot for lunch. 1/2 raw while I was prepping it, the rest lightly boiled with a bit of English mustard.  Am I alone in my madness  :D  ???

I love it too.  Lots of ways to cook it but stir fried with bacon is my fave.
Cheese makes everything better.

I love raw cabbage best of all, but cooked lightly too. Cant wait for the 5 that have survived!

I like red cabbage, shredded and lightly pan fried in a little bit of olive oil and a good sprinkling of fresh ground pepper - yum! Unbeatable!

Lardman..I have been lead to believe that to some people cabbage tastes bitter. We do not all perceive the taste the same. I love cabbage, but my  mom will only eat spring cabbage.

I feel that there is indeed something a little weird about people who like cabbage ::), but not half so weird as those who like Jerusalem artichoke.
I have found that cabbage is more palatable when fried, as others above have mentioned. One taste of J. artichoke, on the other hand, was enough to put me off for life.

My daughter will not normally eat it. She came home from a restaurant one day and said she had enjoyed eating fried seaweed.  I pointed out that the name was misleading, that it was in fact green cabbage. I wish I knew how to fry it crisp.

Over the winter I tried several Russian recipes for savoy cabbage and red cabbage. They were all delicious (though very fattening, including things like butter, flour, apples, bacon and cream.... yum....  :tongue2: :)).

I am a cabbage convert and have just planted out a couple of rows of Best Of All savoys and red cabbages. Now I am trying to keep the butterflies off 'em! Hope they heart up big and crunchy  :D
