I think it's likely that she has inadvertently overcooked them, particularly if they were boiled, as fresh new spuds have a tendency to do this if cooked a little too long.

Much better to steam them, I've found.

I'm sure that one of the many many current spud threads in GYO mentions this particular problem and solution
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I'm digging up Pentland Javelin at the moment and they are cooking wonderfully, but 2 years ao, I can't reember which one it was, but even when I tried steamingthem, and not for overly long either, they disintegrated!!

I had same problem last year with 3 different varieties, the skins just burst and I found I had to prick them and steam them.

Have grown several varieties of new spuds this year, so we can compare and choose which we like.

Pentland Javelin have bottom place on the scoreboard so far ...

(may just be our soil / growing methods / cooking though ..)

We have really liked the Arran Pilot (which were seriously early - large plants, nightmare to earth up to keep the frost off!, started harvesting at 9 weeks)

Also like the Maris Peer.
