Pumpkin fruit going soft
« on: June 24, 2009, 21:40 »
My pumpkin has produced two mini fruits.  The flower on one has died and the pumpkin has gone soft, the other flower is yet to open.  None of the male flowers have opened yet.  I'm assuming that the 2nd fruit will also not be viable until the male flowers have had a chance to pollinate it.  Will this happen naturally or will nature need a helping hand??

Assuming pumpkins are like courgettes etc, I think this is quite common at the start of the season.  If you're still having pollination problems in a couple of weeks then perhaps ask again?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Phew - glad its not just me!! I slung in a few pumpkin seeds to fill a bare patch, weve now got four growing and if all goes to plan Ive a feeling itll be a bit of a squash (tee hee!) Seriously though - Im not too sure, but I think Ive read that unless youve got plenty of pollinating insects about they will need a hand - get your paintbrush out!?
