onions and srawberries!
« on: June 24, 2009, 08:39 »
From my subect I guess you can tell I am not the most knowledgable of gardeners. My onions have developed seed heads, which I think means they have bolted, why has this happened and what shall I do with the onions at this stage?
My strawberries are a disaster, we decided to grow them through black plastic on raised beds, the plants are very small and what strawberries there were have been eaten despite covering them with netting.  Any advice for a novice allotmenteer.

Cut the seed stalks off the bolted onions. These will not keep well so seperate them from the others when you lift them amd use these first.

Raised beds dry out quicker than flat ground. Your strawberries may be short of water. Is it slugs eating them?
