Snuffly hens
« on: June 22, 2009, 09:04 »
Hi, could anyone give me some idea what could be wrong with my sisters hens. She has 4 rescued hens, x battery, when she got them about 4 weeks ago they seemed fine and happy, but over the weekend they have all developed snuffly runny noses, and they dont look very happy at all, they seem to mope about, and are not very active. any advise please.
Thanks.
Andy.

Any wheezing from the chest? Swollen face?

Trip to the vets for some antibiotics may be in order.

Ex-batts have a fairly low resistance to infections as they have never been exposed to them before so have not built up any resistance.

As Hensington says some antibiotics may well sort them out.  Make sure to thoroughly clean their accomodation out when they are on the meds as some germs can hang around in their home for quite a long time.
