I pulled up the first of my kestrel spud plants, got them back from the lottie and oh my god ain't the taste of freshly dug potatoes divine. They were dug, boiled and on the plate within an hour. Think I will be pulling a 1 plant at a time fom now on. :D :D :D

You people that "pull" earlies must be leaving a lot in the ground! :tongue2:
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I am sure "pull" (like "yank") is just a generalised term..... I "yank" mine by carefully sifting and moving soil away with my hands so as not to leave a single tiddler behind!!  ;)

Huge tops on my plants but still waiting for the rain to help bulk out the bottom!  :(

Sorry I did mean lift, not pull :tongue2:. Though come to mention it I've been looking for a proper potato fork.
One with 9 or 10 tines and the bobbles on the end of the tines too, to help stop skewering the spuds.
Thought it might help get every last tuber out. I can get what they call a ballast fork or tarmac fork they have lots of tines but the points are sharp. :)

Well I have already been digging up and eating wonderfull earlies since the 6th of June.

I must say having pulled up a plant this week I was surprised at how big some of them where, almost baking potatoe size.  I had a nagging doubt and consulted my allotment plan, brushed of the dust from the journel and checked.

Yes I have been eating my 2nd earlies for two weeks whilst my 1st's sit there happily growing away!!

Same here - the kestrels are ready and my first earlies are titchy. One Kestrel last night was the size of a huge baker - so it is being made into chips in about an hour.
