resolutions for next year already!
« on: June 18, 2009, 09:58 »
Anyone else doing this yet? I have a pen and pad in my shed where I can write down what I should have done this year, and where I went wrong whilst it's fresh in my mind. Top of the resolution list for next year is:

to start my seeds off earlier.
to sort out my fruit bushes in Feb instead of leaving it
get my onions in under cloches much earlier
to grow cucumbers that actually produce fruit!!!

and so on.
Whether I follow my own advice or not next year is another thing entirely!  :)
There's more comfrey here than you can shake a stick at!

I have done this too!

Definitely agree with you on starting seeds off earlier. Tomatoes in particular. I will also NOT be pinching out the tops of my sweet peas while they are only a few inches tall - they have only just started to grow again lol

I've also decided not to grow white onions next year, it doesn't seem worth it to me.

Sewing seeds earlier is a must for me next year especially tomatoes and cucs. But also to pot on quicker and not leave them in modules for weeks on end ::)

Try not to lose the labels when transplanting
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Every year I start earlier but still everyone else is ahead of me

I am considering giving up my battle with cucumbers too
You have not lost the battle unless you quit :)

Lots of resolutions from me too!!

Sow seeds and generally get my backside into gear earlier.

Don't let the flamin' pigeons eat my cauliflowers!

Get a shed (Yippee - got permission for one!!)

to start my seeds off earlier.

However, seeing a lot of disaster stories this year, most people's resolution must be to sow them LATER!

That and "don't put brassicas in heated propagators! :tongue2:".
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

it's a double-edged sword, isn't it? Thinking sow seeds mid Feb in the greenhouse with a big bag of fresh horsemuck (1 a week) in the corner to provide some warmth.  :)

All depends what seeds you're talking about.

Yes! that is my resolution.  At the moment I am itching to sow seeds that I know should not go in before July.

Cheers,

Gillie

this year I got proccupied with digging over the plot and building my new greenhouse - I had to do a lot of prepwork first - so I left the sowing a bit late and have been playing catchup for the last couple of months. Just about the only thing I got in on time were my early spuds.

must do better next year!  :)

ditto most of the above, plus plant even more spuds next year, after planting four times as many this year I still wish I'd put more in after tasting our first crop for tea yesterday...in fact what the heck I'm gonna plant some more this weekend...the flowering shrubs are gonna have to go

My resolution will probably be to give up the plot altogether :(
Mine is full of marestail and forget-me-nots I can't get rid of.
I haven't had enough time to cultivate enough ground to grow stuff and am finding it really hard work on my own so not sure if someone else can do better...

oh what a shame... can't you find an allotment buddy to help you?  It would be shame to give it up, even if you sectioned off a small patch and used that is better than giving up.  come on everyone encouragement needed.....
