I agree with GG, cant you either get a buddy or even plot share, with the shortage of allotments I bet there's lots out there only too willing, of course you would need to check with your allotment commitee first. If you give it up you may regret it.

oh what a shame... can't you find an allotment buddy to help you?  It would be shame to give it up, even if you sectioned off a small patch and used that is better than giving up.  come on everyone encouragement needed.....

if you dont know anyone whos willing to help you how about landshare

Landshare is for land owners, not tenants.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I understand that DD but if someone in his area is looking for somewhere to grow there own perhaps sharing an allotment would be the answer. Of course nipper would probably need permission to share his plot but if it works then why not. Its just an idea.

I would hope that if there are waiting lists in an area, people would offer to share with someone who has been patiently waiting on the specific list, rather than going off to a different organisation.  Seems more fair to me.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Not wishing to be contraversial, my principles often get me into trouble. :-)
People wait years, sometimes tens of years for an allotment. If you offer your allotment to someone else to share, then what happens if you want out at a later date?
We had to buy a bigger house with a large garden after i moved in with my now husband. my name had been down on allotment lists for four years! i 'got ' one the week i sold my house!!! The area that i moved to had a seven year wait!!!

Seems theres more to all this plot/land share than meets the eye.
Anyway back to topic, a resolution for me this year is to clean up the garden as things come to an end. I have a habit of leaving things till spring when its twice as hard to sort things out especially my greenhouse.  ::)

add me to the 'plant things a bit later' crowd.

Also: plant potatoes, broad beans more spaciously (it's a bit of a jungle on those beds)
plant more peas. Many many more peas.

I only said to DD the other day that I was planning ahead for next year already.. :D

Definitely going to put more spuds in...

Start things of a little earlier..

Get some Raspberry bushes in..

You learn so much and quickly in the first year...I'll be better prepared next year..

But I'm looking forward to eating the fruits of this years labour first 8)

Its great to write these things down so we don't forget. Trouble is, I can't remember where I put the notebook!

Well so far I know that next year I need to spread things out more and leave extra space between spud rows so I can earth them up properly!  Eejit! ::) :nowink:

  • I must make use of the wall on my plot and get a cherry tree or two sorted out
Apply for permission to erect a shed
    Build compost bins
Not leave pumpkin plants in their tiddly paper pots for so long!!!

...I'm sure the list will grow.... ::)

Ah yes, the list from experience over three years.

Grow a little of a lot rather than have a glut of fewer items.
Grow the more expensive items that we like rather than the cheaper ones.
Read the instructions on the packet as they often work as well as the ideas of the old geezers who've been doing it for years.
Grow fewer wild flowers and use the space for cash crops
Don't grow too much and go round looking for people who want spares
