Thanks TMG  you said exactly what I meant

Can't you put some electric fencing round a single area for them rather than the entire farm ?

i don't know Aunty, i've thought of nothing else since Hurley was taken, it was worse than we thought, when we did a head count in the stables there were only 18 ex barns out of 25, none of the identifyable ones have gone so we didn't know straight away (they are hard to count) everyone else is present and correct,  i don't know whether to try and keep the fox out or the hens in, the chook paddock is a field with 6 hen houses in it, all the groups have there own house and tend to stay together, if i try and make one big pen i feel the groups wouldn't have enough room for their own gangs and the cockerals might fight, if i try and make smaller pens then i don't think they'd have the room their used to and i really don't want to pen them up anyway, i feel so miserable, i know foxes have their place in society i just wish it wasn't here.

It's a very hard choice to make TMG  :(

Not one any of us can advise you about.

Do you remember Jimmy on Jimmy's Farm.  He decided to get some ex-batts to get some egg production going when he first started his farm off.  He housed them in some old caravans in a field.  When he first got them he said that he would accept a 10% loss to foxes but I think it was more than that that actually got taken.

It's a gamble of total freedom against being taken by a fox.
