New potatoes
« on: June 14, 2009, 16:56 »
The first Post I made here was to ask if anyone had grown Lady Christl as it was new to me.
Well dug some up this week and I'm pleased to report they were beautiful.
Yes I know the first of the season are always the best but these were exceptional with an unusual sweet edge.
Met one of the old timers today who was also very pleased with his Lady Christl never having grown it before.
Nobody is that complimentary about Rocket - 'falls to easily ' and 'has no flavour'

Somebody else had grown International Kidney and said they were so good he had eaten them with melted butter as a starter! However he felt the flavour deteriorated rapidly and they had to be fresh dug

Any comments anyone on the eating qualities of new potatoes??
Playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order!

I grew Ulster Sceptre last year which were very tasty, grew them again this year and the taste is not so great so i am puzzled by that, this year I grew them under black plastic so could that affect the flavour ? Also grew Vales Emerald and i dont think much of that flavour also, going to try Sharpes express tomorrow so i hope they are ok as they are my last type of earlies !

I have Lady Crystal this year completely by accident as well as Rooster maincrop as the seed company sent the wrong order!  >:(

Happily they are gorgeous!

I am going to try to find some other maincrop taties to put into the hen run beds for a Christmas harvest and will read the thread with interest at what others think  8)
