I'm lucky that mine are better off direct seeded in the ground. Planted them 2 weeks ago and they're about an inch tall now with secondary leaves coming on. They're happy nestled in some straw mulch which is handy as our weather has been the pits lately, overcast and frequent short showers. Not at all the kind of weather we're used to. It should be sunny and in the high twenties.

I've not planted courgettes, pumpkins, toms or cucumbers yet. Just been too busy. I had a mass weeding session today as my untended plot has got away from me. Just too much work on.


I hope that situation will soon change and I'll be spending lots more time on the plot. Counting the days

I planted 4 out a while ago, and whilst they are doing well, the one i had in a pot in the coldframe as a back up is probably doing better than the others i think you will be fine as long as it doesnt get too big for its pot.

the area I had planned out for my squashes got too dry and hard to dig so I covered it in weed suppressant, cut out some crosses, filled them with (to my shame, store bought) manure and planted the squashes in that.  did lossen the soil a bit though coz it was very compacted.  they are doing well so far but have been given a load of water as the soil was dry at least 8 inches down.  we have been promised rain here all last week but its been very litle and hasn't made any difference to the dryness of the soil.  lots of muscle building watering can runs for me!!
