Crikey, didn't mean to cause such angst.

Just for info, I have read a lot of books about this and spoken to numerous people and been to Poultry auctions where i have picked the brains of the old and wise. I am not the sort of person that keeps animals without researching first. However the person I bought these from, who has a lot of hens and breeds regularly has always, according to her, removed the lamp at 2 weeks.  So as that is what they were used to I thought it best to continue along those lines. Maybe not.

I will borrow a lamp and see what happens.

As you can see we are all passioate about our flocks  :D, and like any normal family we will squabble. We aren't like this all the time - honest  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.

Fingers crossed once they warm up a bit they'll perk up :)

Have they eaten at all recently?
Are their poops normal?

Sarah :)

Vember

They are eating really well, drinking well and their poops appear normal.

I'll see if the lamp makes a difference.

Thanks for all your comments.

Don't forget a thermometer of some some GF!  You said they are in a light and airy room, but also could they be too warm?  that could also make them lay there panting.

Fingers crossed they will be okay.  I really can't understand this breeder onlyhaving her chicks under heat for 2 weeks, although someone on here the other week I'm sure said they put their's in the garden after 2 weeks.  I try to play safe, as its those first couple of weeks that give them the best chance in life!

Think this site is better than books as everyone has come across lots of different problems and made mistakes that we can all learn from.  :D

Rubbish Joyfull.  We often have to try to save animals here that the owner has nearly killed in their ignorance  >:(

Much better to know the basics BEFORE you get the animals in   >:(

I agree Aunt Sally, but all I was trying to say was that this forum (plus other internet sites)are often better than books. Books can only cover so much, and as Golden Fleece has pointed out she had done her research before, just like any responsible animal owner would have done.

Get books ! They contain good factual information.

So much of what you read on the internet (and on forums) is complete tosh  ::)

I have Animal Science Bsc and Animal care qualifications (Still have loads left to learn tho)however I have to agree with all of you! Yes people should research well into getting any animal however the advice on here from very qualified chuck keepers is priceless and when you ask a question you can get so many different answers Brilliant!

and that even includes the simple(ish) task of growing veg never mind the much more important task of keeping animals!!
