Some of my onion leaves are also bent, twisted or running along the ground so to speak. The leaves are still green and from what I can see of the neck, appear to be the same as the ones that have grown straight up. It's my first time of growing them and I planted in March (I think). So don't know what has gone wrong with them

There is a decorative curly onion, forget the full name, so its possible it got crossed with the onions at pollinating time. Otherwise, onions don't sport hair perms.

We grow a lot of onions , this year we have this problem , never had it before. All the sets were from the same source , but some have developed this weird curling of the leaves .I dont think they will grow to much size but I am loathed to pull them. I did dig one up , no sign of any root problem. I wondered if it is something in the soil. I wont be planting them near this plot for a few years just in case.

I also have one or two with a curly leaf although the rest of the leaves are fine.  They are growing really well so I have not been concerned.

The allium leaf miner might be responsible.

I wondered if was something to do with the prolonged dry spell that we had.
Puzzling as my onions are looking healthy,  possibly the only thing worth mentioning is  the growth looks a tiny bit stunted on the curley ones.

Has the ground been manured in the last year?

My plot has been manured, though most of my onions are straight, quite a few are all over the place. I knew about carrots etc not liking manure but I've seen a picture recently on a thread of onions surrounded by manure looking great. I'm thinking the dry spell theory and me not watering enough is probably the reason for my problems.
