Really small leek seedlings?
« on: June 09, 2009, 21:52 »
Could someone offer some advise. Do Leeks generally take a long time to get to pencil size? Mine are about 9 weeks old and are still only about 2 inches tall.

That doesn't sound too bad to me - mine have always taken a long time to do anything (except this year, when they got eaten  >:( )
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Hi and welcome! (pop over to the wlcome and tell us more about yourself as we is nosy!)

Not being a big leek grower I dont know for definate, but I know they can take a while to get thick...9 weeks old is still relatively baby, give them another month or so...theres loads of time to get them in still...

hi fuzzie,my leeks have been in a month now and doing well, they were only half a pencil thin but were 6-7 inches tall,i top and tailed them as suggested ,to reduce transpiration??(i think thats water loss through the leaves).i started them the last week in feb on the window sill. :)

My leeks were planted 01-Apr (9 weeks too) and are getting on for pencil size I'm afraid :)

They were sown in a 9" pot in a cold greenhouse
