Large blood spots in the coop.
« on: June 09, 2009, 11:58 »
I have 3 Cream Legbar hens and 2 Scots Grey hens and my Scots Grey Cockerel (Archibald)
All 10 weeks old.
It was there second night in the shed.
I went last night to clean out the droppings.
Trying to get some vinyl flooring to cover the floor. Until then is cardboard.
Anyway found these blood spots.
They are large. No obvious signs of damage to the hens!!
Any ideas.

Stuart

Could a mouse or something have got in? - resulting in damage to the mouse!

Doupt it.

Looks like either they have come in from the pop hole and perched and bleed.

or

Bleed on the perch and then gone out of the pop hole.

I have never seen the chucks perch and eat.

Yes I know.  I recently posted a video of Archibald eating a mouse.

jessica had that a while ago - it looked like she'd ripped herself whilst laying an egg- there was a bit of blood around for a couple of days then it stopped.

could be what's happening to yours?
maybe check the vents to see if you can spot any blood around them.
(with Jess it was just drops of blood dripping out)

At 10 weeks old I would be amazed if they can lay eggs yet.

Ruff, remind me, are these the lot now going out??? :)

Yes they are now in Stallag 14

Must get some finished photos.

Ruff I would treat this lot for cocci to be on the safe side. They could have picked it up from going outside. Catch it quick though!! :)

Foxy you may be right regarding treating all for cocci, but it doesn't look much like when the polands had cocci, the blood was in the pooh it self, not in droplets like Ruffs, also the blood was a lot darker, Rough has one of them cut themselves while shaving their legs?

Laminate flooring works well in our shed ;)  Easy to clean, scrape and keeps the shed flooring looking good......

Blooming heck Ruff that doesn't look good :(  I hope your chickens get well soon I love those of yours.
