Good mulch for raised beds
« on: June 08, 2009, 17:10 »
Hello,

I was wondering what is a good mulch for raised beds that are planted with veggies to control weeds and keep the moisture in?

Weed control fabric in between the runs of planted veg and pegged down do you think?

Any advice appreciated.

Weed control fabric will work, provided you get heavier stuff. All the lightweight ones seem to break apart quickly and weeds will grow through them. Cardboard will also work although unsightly; you can't complain about the price  ;) I personally use shredded leaves or old straw, never hay.

My manure worked well for me.

Hardly had any weeds, and holds the moisture in well.
