Howard the secret is to use a paper punch like the ones for making hole so you can put them in a binder. Quick and easy. Just fold the bag over a few times and you can make hundreds of holes.
The polybag system works because the roots can get into the ground.
My result was 4.6lbs of spuds from one potato in 17litres of compost.

I did consider using a hole punch, but dismissed it because I thought it would simply take too long.

But then again, I didn't think to fold the bags up.
