New duck flys off
« on: June 06, 2009, 21:45 »
Hi guys

Bought two call ducks yesterday spent £80 on them.  Everything fine yesterday they settled in well and today I turned round to see the male call duck fly off into the distance and hasnt been seen since.  Mrs call duck is quite stressed so I have kept her in today,  Do you think I should clip her wing and also do you think there is any likely hood of the male finding his way back since he has only been here a day

Ouch :(

I always do my call ducks wings, really wouldn't like to say if he'll come back or not ???

How long have the pair been together do you know? I dread to think what my girls would do if their men left home they have a very strong bond.

I have a spare silver call boy :)

Assuming they had actually pair-bonded, I would have thought he'd be back for her.

Hope so anyway, poor girl.

Just a thought do you have the number of the people you got them off ???

If he had bonded with another female maybe he's gone back to her ???

I would call the people that I got the ducks from and see if he flew back home.  You just had £40 fly away!  I bet you were shocked to see that!
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!

Hi guys

Yeah I shocked at loosing £40 but my main concern is his safety, the pair have been together for approx 18mths and had a strong bon they were inseprable thats why i was so shocked.  I hope he comes back as I would hate to think a fox or dog or cat got him as were in a quite residential area, I have posted some leaflets around the doors today in case he is trapped in someones garden

Providing he can fly, he should be safe enough. He may have found a group of wild ducks on a pond or river and decided he fancies being a wanderer but hopefully the draw of his mate will bring him home.
If she's calling, he should hear and respond until they reunite.

I will cross my fingers and any spare appendages that he comes home soon. Please keep us posted.

Crossed fingers for you, how awful.

Worth contacting where you got him from? Might turn up there.

Maybe, in this instance and you have a limited budget it might be best to rehome the duck.
