Polytunnel at allotment
« on: June 06, 2009, 20:57 »
Hi Guys,

Its been along time. I have been busy preparing and planting.

I have sweet corn, runner beans, Onions, Garlic. Oh and a new Polytunnel just ordered today.

I should get the tunnel in about 7 days time. It will probably take me a week or 4 weeks to install it. Its a proper one. 13 by 8 and a half feet. You have to dig down and put clamps in. Great fun.

I am also going to install a gravity fed irrigation system so it will be self watering.

Any ideas on rain harvesting at an allotment. We do have mains water but I would like to try it, Guess I need a shed with a roof and drain pipe and gutters.

Dave

I've been thinking about getting a small poly too.  We have one at at school but recently it has been around 130 degrees inside    We're going to order a new cover next after next summer that has a net lower section with poly covers you can roll up as it is better than any sauna I have been in ::)

I would be interested to know how you get on with one at the plot
Plot 11L Woodhall allotments, Chelmsford, Essex.

It's against the law in Australia to fornicate with a kangaroo.................unless you are drunk!!!  Otherwise, it'd be disgusting :@

I have seen tunnels with vents at the top which would remove more heat...my little one (6 X 8)has vents at the bottom and it still gets very hot (with a lot of condensation as well).
One guy near me has cut a flap at the top of the flat end opposite the door and just closes it in the winter with repair tape....works for him :)

Well as soon as I get it, I will let you know. I am dredding putting it up as they are a little bit of work. However I am lucky enough to know a couple of friends to help. So that should make it easier.

The main reason for the tunnel is I want to grow chillies, there are over 400 verieties. I cant wait to start.

So as soon as I get some crops growing in there I will keep you updated! :D
