urgent!!chicken killer help please
« on: June 04, 2009, 20:41 »
hi everyone,my neighbours chickens(who were all broody) have been disappearing over the course of a week or so,first we thought a fox as we are remote and it took the cockerel to begin with? all we found were feathers(broad daylight)
since then the stock has been going maybe not daily but often.in the end i shut the remaing 3 hens in an arc.one was then taken from out of the nest box at the end, some eggs eaten.so i stuck a brick on,came to this moring and the remaining two dead, one had no legs left.the other dead but plucked on the legs.yet there is probably only a two-three inch gap that something to force its way through?????????????
could it be a mink or am i being dramatic.
i myself have seven healthy hens and a stunning cockerel and do not want to lose them.
please help!!
what can i do

Mink will go through a 3" gap no problem. Google 'mink trap' there`is one for £17.50 inc p&p.

The cage trap should catch it if its a mink as they are fairly bold. When you say you live in a remote area are pine martins, or polecats a possibility?

And i have to ask what do you do thats unusual , if you don`t tell me i won`t sleep tonight  ;)
