Sparrows pecking
« on: June 04, 2009, 19:54 »
The sparrows are pecking at my peas .............despite me feeding them. How ungrateful they are!
I've heard of netting against pigeons....but against sparrows :( Do they do much damage so i can grin and bear it or will i have to net tomorrow ???

Sparrows round here will strip very young leaves and peck through netting if leaves are close enough. >:(
Cheese makes everything better.

Sat out in the garden with a cuppa yesterday, little hen sparrow came hopping past 4ft away peck, peck out of the lettuce, peck peck out of the beetroot leaf, peck peck out of the spinach. All this with my cd bird scarers spinning and flashing 6" over its head.
Then it flew onto the low wall where i was and started to peck the leached salts from the brickwork.
Had to smile, even if they have hammered the lettuce.

Ps they go for runner bean flowers as well as pea shoots.

spray your peas with a weak solution of washing up liquid , the cheap stuff will do,

about 5ml per 7ltr sprayer should do the job
