Cauliflour seedlings

Hiya,

Trying to grow cauli's for the first time this year and my seedlings have germinated (nearly 2weeks ago) but look a bit leggy and have started drooping/falling over - they're about 3" tall and just have the first two leaves on - is this normal size or are they a bit spindly?? (Compost is moist so shouldn't be through lack of water)

Any ideas??

like WG says, where are they? could be lack of light? too much water? Do you have a greenhouse, or are they in the house on a windowsill?

I've got them inside near a window. Temp is about 18-20c.
Will they be alright or shall I start again with some new ones?

Much too warm. Try to harden them off gradually for a move to a cold greenhouse, coldframe and eventually out of doors.

And I'd suggest you plant more anyway. This time put them outside as soon as they break the surface.

repot them into longer containers -loo roll centres are ideal. Gently replant until only the leaves are left showing (cover all of the stalk with compost ) and move to a cooler place. If they go leggy again when you plant them outside do the same again and leave only the leaves above ground.. Happened to me last year and with the above I had lovely caulis -It apparently works with all brassicas (oops shouldn't have said that , someone will tell me better!)
