oh no runners are dwarf!!!!!!!!!!
« on: June 03, 2009, 08:13 »
we bought some runner plants from local nursery and after close inspection last nite discovered they may be dwarf . They arent wrapping them selves round canes and although leaves are slightly darker than our other dwarfs  they are only a foot high and are flowering!!!!!they have been in about 6 weeks.Have planted some runner seeds last nite in green house hoping to catch up. Were going to have bumper crop of dwarfs this year tho they will look silly with wigwams ,other seasoned allotmenteers must think were stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I've done the same thing my runners have been out for weeks now and are only about 8" high, we bought these from a nursery as plug plants, yet the ones that I've grown from seed are twice their size!!

Hands up -  just found out I've done the same :D :D
Cos I'm managing a full plot on my own this year I know the ole timers round about are watching me - thinking  I can't do anything - going to provide them right about the beans - blast.  So am going to rush to plot and sow a few runners.

I've put in 6ft canes :D :D :D

Totally novice.  sorry

Because they don't grow as tall as the climbers, they produce less flowers and therefore, beans. The cropping period was shorter as well, i found,...good for an early crop though
I'd just sow another row of climbers along the poles...they can take over as the dwarf ones go over

done it mumofstig, just a few runners planted tonight.  I like dwarf beans , just 6ft canes look daft.

Am trying to restrain myself from plants loads of everything, because I will only have to give it away - which I love to do - its a mind set thing - if there is a space fill it :D :D

Yes I had my 7ft wigwam in place ready for my sweetpeas and tall runner beans. Was visualising a vision of beauty when I realised I had bought dwarf beans, so quickly went to garden centre and bought some. They are just germinating now so hopefully I will still see the vision :)

LOL  :tongue2:

So it isn't about the beans  its about the huge superstructures erected to help them reach 2 foot into the sky lolol.

(Makes a note to sneak round everyones plot and take incriminating photos )
