Black flies on my runner beans
« on: May 31, 2009, 19:35 »
I left the netting off my runner beans last night, for the first time since planting &today they were covered in masses of tiny black flies. I gave them a good soaking of water&washing up liquid& a couple of hours later they seemed to be dead or dying.
This leaves me with a few questions. What were they?Have they harmed the plants? Was the netting stopping these until now? What should i do to prevent this happening again?
A lot of questions i know, but it was a bit worrying to see them like this.
  Cheers
 Tel.

The black flies are errrr - blackfly. Very common in beans.

Netting would need to be very fine to stop them.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Fill up a spray bottle with your bathwater (after the bath) and give em a blast .....this will get rid of them.
Because of the soap ;)
