I've landscaped my garden and put in a new rockery.  This year this plant has appeared from under one of the rocks.  It doesn't fit in with anything around it but I have left it as it looks so unusual.  Can anyone tell me what the plant is..... or is it just a fancy weed..??

Does it have a rough flat sided stalk, the leaf looks like a verbiculum.

Looks like spurge from the leaves I think.

 Grows up and gets a kind of triangular seedcase on the top ... weed but quite attractive. Take care as the white milky sap can cause blisters on your skin

It's Caper Spurge - Euphorbia lathyris

It's an annual but seeds itself freely - if you let it go to seed it will be popping up for the next 7 years!

It is fairly ornamental - also said to repell moles but I think the jury is still out on that

Wow I was just about to do a post about the same thing which has rooted in one of my pots - we've decided to keep it as its quite a feature. Its fondly  called the triffid!

Many thanks everyone.  I've never seen a plant like it - didn't have a clue what it was.  I will definitly be keeping it though - may even pretend it was meant to be there!

By the way my veggies are suffering as I've used horse manure contaminated with a persistant herbicide - trouble is I've used the same maure to bed in some lovely David Austin roses - they won't curl up and die too will they........??
