An alarming amount of ginger feathers - more the bum kind (little fluffy ones) are appearing on the floor of the run. I haven't seen any in the garden, where they range in the afternoon, but I haven't done a micro-sweep of a pretty big lawn and dense bushes! The suspect, Norah the ginger ranger, is not showing any bare patches but I'd like to nip this in the bud before it happens. I have not seen any pecking but will keep a close eye out tomorrow, when I am home all day. Anything else it might be and anything I should be doing to prevent further feather loss?

May be a normal moult or a bird about to become broody , losing a few feathers so she can warm the eggs better.

She hasn't started laying yet (ours are all around the same age and one started two days ago but not Norah judging by the comb) so I imagine that wouldn't be the case but as with so many things I could be very very wrong...

With any luck its just a henhouse squabble dislodged a few feathers or may have been startled and knocked a few out on the wire.
Worth a check for lice though just in case there`s some irritation.
