Can I ask for some IDs please - updated ?
« on: May 29, 2009, 18:07 »
Hi folks. It's name that bloom time again.

1. A large shrub.

2. Quite spindly, about 5ft high with deep red flowers. Sorry not a good photo.

3. Another biggy.

4. Low growing weed/herb. About 18" high. Pale green feathery foliage with a lemony (I think) scent. Growing in a crack in some flags.

Obviously not brilliant shots but might be familiar to someone. Thanks for any suggestions.

3 is Rosa glauca which used to be Rosa rubrifolia before it was re-named.
A species rose with good, coloured foliage, small single pink flowers and good hips.
Can be propagated from seed or cuttings
Playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order!

I know they are not peas.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Thanks folks. I'll get reading about pruning, etc.

Need to try and whip it all back into shape. Might take a couple of years methinks. I'm going to start another thread in a bit about wisteria pruning.  :)

I'll have to get one when I next go. Hopefully early next week. :)

Fortunately, none of the others there seem to have a clue about gardening so I can sound really knowledgeable even with my limited abilities !  :D

I agree that no 1 is a weigela, possibly "carnival"? Looks like no 2 is a weigela as well, but a different variety.

Better photos of No.2...

And another one for you...

Bit of a jumble but it's a small tree....

Close up of leaves...

As always, thanks for any names. :)

Thanks celjaci. You're a star !  :D

I must make a plan of the garden so I'll know what they all are come autumn. Any free garden planning software that I can download ?

Save a lot of sketching. I promise I won't do a spreadsheet for it  ::)
